It's interesting what strikes a chord with people. I guess I'm not the only one who ate bread and butter and sugar as a child. (And you know, it still does taste good to me as an adult. Not everything I loved as a child does. It's not something I'd want to eat on a regular basis, but as a treat it's kind of nice).
Part of the point of bread and butter and sugar is to have the sugar on there thick enough to make it a little crunchy. (I know, nutritionists would be horrified, but my goodness, when every day on the news you hear some new thing that will kill you or make you get old fast or cause some chronic disease, and a lot of it is stuff you don't have a lot of control over, sometimes you have to say, 'okay, I eat healthy most of the time, I exercise, I wear my seat belt, I try to get enough sleep. But I'm still gonna enjoy something once in a while and not feel guilty about it.')
as for hiccup remedies - my mom used the sugar thing too. (I was very prone to hiccups as a child - I still am as an adult, especially if I lift something the 'wrong' way). Later on, when I was older, I found that drinking from the "wrong" side of a glass (fill a wide-rimmed glass with water, bend your head forward, and sip from the far side) worked better for me, so that's what I use as a first try now.
My most recent Elann order came yesterday - some of the sockyarn they had on a good price. I bought some of the sparkly "Disco" yarn - I'm going to make socks for my mother for Christmas again. I'm going to do a plain pair using the pattern I'm making my green socks from, using a denim-colored yarn, and I'm going to make her a pair of "Disco" socks too. I think she will find them amusing. I also bought more of the Highland Wool - it's hard for me to resist it because it's such a good deal and there are so many colors. I got some of the oatmeal color, for a vest. Probably the X-O vest from Folk Vests, and the pink I had a larger quantity of on hand (and had thought I'd use for that pattern) will go for a pullover now.
(And I think this purchase put me over the top for yet another "HSICBIBSMYFYC*" $50 gift certificate. Good thing I'm NOT driving around everywhere to go antiquing these days)
