And here's a bit of knitting stuff, and a designer-type question:

If you knit an object - like, say, a stuffed toy - following a pattern at one gauge, but you use a different yarn to a different gauge (and needles appropriate for that yarn), will it still be proportional and all fit together right?

I really like the idea of making a knitted alligator, but I don't like working with Homespun (especially on 10.5 needles) well enough, and also I simply do not have room in my life for a 35" long stuffed alligator.

What if I used, say, size 3 needles and some dk weight yarn with the pattern? Would I get an alligator that's pretty much the same, just tiny? Or would I get some kind of horribly mutated thing that wouldn't fit together?

Anybody?

Anybody?

(I suppose I could try the darn thing myself but if someone's already tried it and it's unsuccessful, it would save me some precious knitting time. I really don't like failed experiments).
