you buy an iPod, I buy a tiller
Okay, I'm posting this here as a part of a way of keeping myself honest. I'm not going to buy any new yarn until June, because I ordered a Mantis tiller. I had originally thought I wanted an electric one, then ordered a gas one by mistake...called the company this morning (I placed the order late yesterday afternoon) and the lady told me it was already on the truck, and that I could either refuse it outright or try it out and see if I liked it, and if I didn't, exchange it.
Now, that's fast. I placed the order at like 3 pm yesterday (a Sunday) and by 9 Eastern Time Monday Morning, my tiller was on its way...
It is about $300 all told, so that's why the no-new-yarn pledge.
I do think I'm going to try the gas tiller out - she told me there was pre-measured oil sent with it, and all I have to do is buy gas (which means, I guess, I have to buy a gas can now...). Downside will be that it's louder and pollutes, upside will be I won't have to worry about running over a cord and it might be more powerful.
Even though I hear Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni in my head, talking about how two-stroke engines are "bad" and no one likes a two-stroke engine (which is what the gas tiller has).
I envision ripping up my backyard and turning it into a giant herb garden. I probably won't go that far, but there is some St. Augustine grass whose days are numbered back there.
In other news, I planted my seed-starts of tomatoes and basil today. Yes, I said last year I would never again try starting tomatoes from seed (they come out all wimpy and don't amount to much) but this time I have a special self-watering (or mostly self-watering) tray. And I'm going to try fertilizing once they come up this time.
Hope springs eternal...

We had a mantis when I was growing up, and it was always so fun to watch my mother till the garden with it.
Your luck with plants seems better than mine; I have an amaryllis that is refusing to flower. Last year's amaryllis did flower, but the flower stem was only half an inch long. I've also killed mint.
