The redoubtable (in the sense of definition #2 on Merriam-Webster.com) Sarah Bradberry has written up a pattern for a Monmouth Cap, similar to those seen on the PBS series "Colonial House."

I watched a bit of the series, long enough to notice the caps, but had to turn it off. Am I mistaken, or do the "House" series that PBS does with Americans tend to focus on how much we whine? I mean, goodness. I watched the very first one (1900 House) and the one set in the Edwardian era (Manor House, both of which featured Brits, and didn't seem to notice as much friction and complaining and breaking-down-in-tears as happened on Colonial House or Frontier House.

That said, I'd never volunteer for a show like that (unless they were doing, say, 1980s House) because I am extremely thankful for indoor plumbing, central heat/airconditioning, and modern medicine, and I prefer to live in an era where all are present.
