Well.
Today was the first day of classes, and I hit the ground running. Two 75 minute lectures, plus my soils lab.
And yes, I met the lab (even though such a thing is atypical of the first week of classes). The students did a mapping exercise, part of which was designed to expose them to the soils manual and part which was to get them thinking about how topographic maps are made.
One of the guys, at the end of class, commented half-jokingly: "you made me work my brain too hard on the first day of school!" (the lab IS somewhat challenging especially if your spatial sense isn't finely honed).
I don't know if this means I have officially become a Sadistic Professor, but I just smiled and said "Good," in response to him.
