I decided last night it was best to make some progress on the existing projects rather than to start something new.
So I picked the Kilimanjaro Kat shawl back up. It's approaching the midpoint, so each row takes a lo-o-o-o-ong time, especially when the row is all knit. I have to knit more slowly on this yarn - it's a kid mohair and is as fine as quilting thread, almost - because it's so easy to either drop stitches or to knit into the stitch in the row below the one I actually want to knit.
It's interesting how much variation there is in what is called "lace weight". This yarn - the Mondial kid mohair - is very very fine. But I have other so-called lace-weight yarns that are almost as thick as sockyarn, and the Blackberry Ridge laceweight in the "Song of Hiawatha" stole kit* almost looks close to sportweight. I suppose it doesn't matter that much; shawl size is largely an issue of blocking, anyway. But I do wish that for my first super-complex lace shawl I had chosen a less delicate yarn.
*(One of my knitting-related Christmas gifts. I also got enough Classic Elite Inca Alpaca in a moss green for a vest, some green sockyarn, and a copy of The Purl Stitch).
