HAH!
"Busch said. "Besides, books are very hard to burn since they're so tightly constructed.""
Okay, that requires a backstory on why I said HAH! and on the article the quotation was taken from.
1. The reason I say HAH! in response to the quotation, was that back in my apartment-dwelling days, I got a complaint (from a HUD inspector; the apartment complex was Section 8 - compatable and my apartment was one of the ones she inspected) that I had "too many books" and it constituted a "fire hazard." (N.B.: these books were all neatly filed on bookshelves. My apartment was most definitely NOT a Collyer-brothers clone). This culminated in the apartment manager telling me I had to move some of my books offsite - oh, and by the way, the apartment management company just happened to own a storage-locker company in town. (It was this whole incident that crystallized my desire to buy a house).
the fact that a librarian is discussing how hard it is to get books to burn just reinforces the thought I had at the time: "They let people smoke in these complexes but they complain about a non-smoker's books? Have they never read "Farenheit 451"?"
2. The quotation comes from this article, which describes the arson of a library - apparently perpetrated by some sick puppy* who hated on English Literature so much that s/he had to deprive a whole community of being able to check it out of the library. (I may be overly harsh, but if I were constructing my own version of Hell and consigning folks there, people who vandalize/burn public libraries would be in the lowest circle, picking the demon's flaming dung out of a lake of fire.)
(*there is another word, other than "puppy," that I would like to use there, but my self-imposed ban on certain Germanic/Anglo-Saxon derived, four letter words that begin with f, prevents me)
