Cast on for, and started the lower (garter-st) band of, the Bookworm Vest last night. (corrections for patterns in Folk Vests can be found here, there is one for the neckband of this vest).
The Sirdar version of Donegal Tweed is interesting. It almost feels a little bit felted. It's a wool/acrylic blend, which means it's machine washable (though I don't know if I will machine wash this vest; I generally prefer to handwash handknits other than my socks).
It does have a more riotously colored population of flecks than I would think ideal (hot pink and electric blue and orange in with the more common yellow and red and blue and off-white), but at least that will mean the vest should match with a lot of things.
I think this vest is going to be my take-it-along-for-Christmas-Break large project, partly because if I can finish it, I can get the buttons at the excellent "Sewing Studio" in Normal. (I looked, briefly, for appropriate buttons at the Jo-Ann's here, and only found buttons that I thought would look "meh," at best).
It makes me happy to be knitting on this.
