Haven't done one of these in ages.

the Friday Five

1. What was your first Halloween costume?

My mom made me a cat costume - it was probably from a McCall's Pattern, it had a bodysuit with a zipper up the front and a separate "hood" with ears - when I was very little. When I got a little older, I had a mouse costume made off a similar pattern.

2. What was your best costume and why?

One year in high school I bought an old tuxedo at the Episcopal Church rummage sale (in the town I grew up in, the Episcopalians had the BEST rummage sales, perhaps because they were the wealthiest segment of the population), built a beak and eyes on a baseball cap, made "feet" out of felt, and went as Opus the Penguin. Bloom County was THE most popular comic strip among my group of friends, so the costume was a big hit.

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat?

No. That sort of thing did not occur to me when I was a child. Then again, I can't remember anyone refusing to give me treats.

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.)

Just handing out candy to the trick-or-treat kids. And wearing my pumpkin hat to class.

5. Share your favorite scary story...real or legend!

(This is from the "Ghost Stories for Kids" website my friend Donna was talking about): "Once upon a time, there was this guy who went into a house...and he never came out!"
