Crankiness again on the socknitting list. The argument now is over "should people post their 'I sent four pairs for the Children in Common effort today' messages."
The opinion seems to be mainly towards "yes of COURSE! those people who don't want to see those messages are just old meanies!"
I'm on digest. I've had to scroll through an entire digest to find a single message not dealing with "I sent X pair of socks..."
Given my druthers, I'd say no. But I'm going to remain silent on the topic on-list because it seems anyone who thinks maybe weekly or monthly updates - and no more than that - is a good idea is somehow uncharitable or cranky or self-important.
I dunno. I tend to think of all those old Parables where the rich folk or the Pharisees walk into the temple and go "Look everyone! Look God! I'm such a good person! Here!" as they drop their small offering into a box. And then later, a widow comes in, and silently drops her mite - all that she had - into the offering box.
I don't feel the need to cheer publicly (well, other than here maybe) about any contributions I make to efforts.
I realize some people feel really good about that, and that's their right, I guess. But I do wish I could get a socknitters digest that actually discussed patterns, or yarns, or something other than "I sent out 4 pair today!"
**sigh** I also feel the need to defend Patternworks here.
A lot of people have been bashing them on the lists - or, bashing (really bashing) the new parent company, Keepsake Quilting.
I almost get the sense that craft-snobbery is playing a role in that - people are saying things like "they sell fabric so they can't know anything about yarn!" or griping about customer service.
All I can say, is I ordered from Keepsake Quilting long before Patternworks merged with them. I was **always** happy with the service I received. (I was not **always** happy with Patternworks' service before the merger).
Give them some time, people! Adjustments are still being made!
I sent back yarn I ordered from the "old" Patternworks to the "new" Patternworks and it was processed correctly and reasonably quickly and I got my refund check. Now, if the Patternworks website can be updated a little - I'd love to see systems installed that show you how much of particular dyelots are in stock or if a yarn is backordered - then I'd be totally happy with them.
I'm sure Keepsake Quilting will do a good job. They just need 6 or 8 months to get it all ironed out.
