The Yankee Blogger is doing a project of "100 things you didn't know about" various bloggers. So here are mine:
100. I have fairly bad eyes and have worn glasses since I was 13.
99. My favorite color is green; it used to be blue and before that, pink.
98. I am this year's president of my local chapter of American Association of University Women
97. I can't stand broccoli, either raw or cooked.
96. I had a poodle-cut for a couple years in high school.
95. My middle name is the same as my mother's
94. I dislike Jim Carrey and his movies.
93. My feet pronate; I have a pair of orthotics I am supposed to wear to correct that.
94. I only floss every other day.
93. I still keep stuffed animals on my bed.
92. I hate putting laundry away.
91. I love to make other people laugh.
90. I've never gone "out" to watch Rocky Horror Picture Show and do the whole throwing rice and t.p. thing. That was quite a phenomenon when I was a high schooler.
89. I didn't get my driver's license until I was 18.
88. That was because I freaked out and failed the road test twice.
87. The first week of my "cycle" I totally lose my appetite and I develop an aversion to certain foods like meat.
86. I've never made a totally successful piecrust.
85. I can find things better when I leave my desk a mess than when I clean it up.
84. I have shelved with my serious, grown-up cookbooks, a copy of "The Winnie-the-Pooh" cookbook friends of the family gave me when I was 6 and a copy of "The Disney Cookbook" (a big picture-book sort of thing) my dad bought for me at about the same time.
83. I'm afraid of driving in big-city traffic.
82. I used to be terrified of deep water thanks to some trauma inflicted by a swimming teacher; fortunately I am totally over it now.
81. I used to be afraid of bees and wasps. I'm less afraid now.
80. I like the way geranium plants smell.
79. My favorite artist is Carl Larsson.
78. I love Charles Trenet's music. I was sad when I heard he died, even though he was in his 80s.
77. I can't play the radio if I'm driving with someone in the car, but I play it when I'm driving alone.
76. Sometimes I buy skeins of DMC floss just because I like the color.
75. I took calculus twice but don't remember any of it.
74. I've never been drunk.
73. I used to love grilled cheese sandwiches but now I get an upset stomach if I eat one.
72. I broke my nose in a sledding accident when I was 13.
71. My favorite word is "diaphanous"
70. I often know who is calling me before I pick up the phone. And I don't have caller ID, either.
69. I have a bound copy of my doctoral dissertation in my office at home.
68. I can go through a gallon of skim milk in less than a week.
67. I can never remember how to spell "embarrased" or "occasionally"
66. I was in the regional spelling bee when I was in 8th grade but got knocked out of it fairly early.
65. The word that did me in was "annihilate".
64. I own lots of jewelry but seldom wear it.
63. I leave spiders in my house unless they look like venomous ones.
62. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to sit still for more than an hour at a time
63. I can't stop eating those butter-toffee peanuts if I start.
62. I don't really like potato chips and don't buy them, but I will eat a couple if they are served to me in a restaurant
61. I think my butt looks pretty good.
60. When I was a kid, I had horrible sinus problems and it was like I had a constant cold. I had to carry a handkerchief with me until I hit puberty.
59. I had braces when I was a pre-teen. I actually think that's what finally cleared up my sinus problems.
58. I won $20 for a poem I wrote and submitted to my high school's literary magazine.
57. I'm a member of Sigma Xi and Cum Laude.
56. I can roll my tongue
55. I don't wear nail polish on my fingernails, but I often wear it on my toenails.
54. I wear a dress size 14/16, or a 12 if it's very generously cut.
53. I used to hate my face but either I've gotten better looking as I got older or I have become used to it, because I think I don't look too bad now.
52. I've never tried smoking cigarettes (and never intend to).
51. My favorite classical composer is Antonin Dvorak, with J. S. Bach a close second.
50. I still have the French poetry book I used in high school
49. I broke my elbow about ten years ago, but it wasn't a bad break and I didn't need it to be pinned or anything.
48. I'm overdue for a tetanus booster.
47. When I was 4 years old, an inexperienced nurse gave me a pennicillin shot with a needle that was too large (it was one of those shots in the hip). I don't really remember it, but my mother said I couldn't sit down for a couple of days afterwards, and ever since then, I've had serious trauma about getting shots.
46. I start out sleeping on my stomach, but usually flop onto my back in my sleep.
45. I need the room to be very dark to be able to sleep, and ideally it should be on the cold side.
44. I took a dance class in high school and was miserable at it and felt horrible every time I went.
43. I used to play the clarinet. I might take it back up someday.
42. I'm a good cook provided I have the time and the ingredients.
41. I think I'm a pretty good teacher, if my student comments are any guide.
40. I'm very bad at remembering names and faces. I sometimes see people downtown and think "I should know them, but from where?" It takes me months to learn all of my students' names.
39. I'm very good at remembering odd little facts.
38. I'd rather go to a bookstore than shop for clothes.
37. I like scented candles.
36. My house is mostly done up in yellows and greens on the inside. It has a green roof and shutters.
35. I have a hard time throwing things away.
34. I own a pair of cross-country skis, but haven't used them in at least 15 years.
33. I miss living somewhere where it snows regularly.
32. I wish I could find a guy who would want to take ballroom dancing lessons with me.
31. Sometimes I just like to get in my car and drive.
30. I have a scary looking scar on the inside of my left wrist. I burned myself on an iron when I was hurriedly ironing stuff while I was packing to move here. It looks almost like an old suicide attempt, but it is not.
29. I still wear my old high-school class ring (it's not one of the ones with a big ugly stone - I went to a private school and it is almost like a little signet ring).
28. I haven't been back to the town where I grew up since my parents moved away from it in 1989. I'm not sure I want to go back; too many things would be different.
27. I don't have any tattoos or body piercings. Not even ears.
26. I tend to freckle in the sun, and my hair lightens to a sort of auburn shade.
25. I occasionally get migraine headaches.
24. I miss living close to my mother. She and I used to do a lot of things together.
23. I hate fake-wood paneling. My office is fake-wood-paneled and of course, I can't do anything about it.
22. I don't worry about what colors "go" together when I'm planning a garden. I figure, the plants grow together like that in nature.
21. I'm really good at picking colors or matching colors otherwise. I'm the one people usually come to to ask "do these go together?"
20. My favorite thing to sleep in is an XXL t-shirt that's down to my knees.
19. I believe that you should treat people in the way you want to be treated yourself.
18. I like making food to feed to other people.
17. I'd go nuts if I didn't have my creative outlets - knitting, sewing, quilting, gardening.
16. I learned to read when I was 4 years old.
15. I used to collect shells. I think my collection is still at my parents' house.
14. I can figure up tips, percentages off, and percentages tax in my head.
13. I'm good at reading maps and finding my way around places. I'm even better at remembering how to get around in a place where I've been before.
12. I like "absurd" humor better than humor that is done at someone else's expense.
11. My favorite tv show of all time was "The Muppet Show"
10. I can't eat mussels or oysters or clams because I think of all those little internal organs inside them.
9. I don't wear lipstick, but I do wear foundation, powder, and blush.
8. I know how to refinish furniture but prefer not to do it.
7. I do crossword puzzles in ink.
6. I have a tremendously large vocabulary and I like using it. I like having the precisely right word for a situation.
5. I was a good student; I liked school.
4. I've never actually tried building a fire outdoors; I don't know if I could do it successfully if I had to.
3. When I was a teenager, I loved to read "back to the land" books and fantasize about running away like Sam did in "My Side of the Mountain".
2. I'm happiest when I'm working on something and making progress. It doesn't matter what - coming up with lecture material, weeding, knitting, cleaning house, writing a paper.
1. I believe that there is a God, that he (I think of God as male although God probably doesn't have gender) is loving, and that we can model that love in our lives.
