A project; for when I have time: a decoupaged tray decorated with the yarn labels I've saved over the years.
One of the things I like to do is knit with "new and different" yarns. I've been saving one label from each new yarn I've used since I began knitting again in earnest (1998) and I have quite a few different ones (if I saved all of them when I moved....) Last time I was at the Hobby Lobby I bought a small unfinished wood tray (it's small but it was the biggest and nicest they had), some paint in a neutral color, and a big tub of Mod Podge.

Here's my plan: Paint the tray, let dry, sand. Then apply 2 coats of Mod Podge. Before the second coat dries, I will position the yarn labels where I want them on the tray (I don't think I have enough to cover the entire tray and that's not really the effect I'm going for). Then I will apply many more coats of Mod Podge to stick the labels down well, and hopefully protect them.

Hey - anyone who has done decoupage before, does this sound like a plan? Is Mod Podge water-resistant when dry? (I need to know whether I can use my tray as a tray or as a fancy-mail-holder thingie. E-mail link is on the left.
