Why the asterisks? Two reasons:
1. The equivalent of bleeping a word that might not be friendly for some readers
2. Preventative against ego-searches by Big Corporate Lawyers to tell what the Great Unwashed are saying about their packaged product. I don't want to make it so easy for them to find me to send cease-and-desist letters when I say one slightly critical word about whomever or whatever they represent.
