Fiber progress: Got to the fast fun part on the crocheted Woolspun hat yesterday while waiting at the allergist's. I'm past the increases now and can just speed along until it's long enough. The brim on this pattern is a little funky, I'll have to follow the instructions carefully - it looks like you make it going the OPPOSITE direction and then sew it on.
I don't think I would enjoy knitting with Woolspun. Yarns that vary a lot from thin to thick are not my thing, and this one is very loosely plied. Loosely-plied yarns annoy me.
I gotta pull out the little patterns - one of my coworkers is having a baby shower on the 9th of Feb. (Ack!) I plan to make some booties and buy a book for the kiddo. Perhaps this one would be good as the mom is a geologist. I always make it a practise to give a book that I liked as a child, or find appealing now, as a baby shower present. Other possibilities would be Harry the Dirty Dog (which I remember liking as a child) or maybe Little Bear
And I suppose the knitting means a trip to either the Wal-Mart or the Hobby Lobby for some babyweight washable cool-weather yarn (the kid is due in March, which is the beginning of the warm season where I live.)
