one thing fixed

So the tree guy never showed up. But I wanted to clear some stuff out of the guest room to the trash can, and the tree chunk was blocking the easy path, and also the path I could use to roll the wheelie bin up to my front door. And I did not feel like removing the window screen on the room's window and trying to put it out through there.

And additionally: I need to mow the lawn SOON. And Saturday and Sunday it's going to be blazing hot, even overnight, so tomorrow would be the best day to do it.

So, in frustration, I thought "Maybe I can cut it up with my little folding hand saw, and I can text someone I know from church who commented last night that pecan was good wood for firewood or smoking meat, and see if he wants the pieces, free to haul off, if I cut them up"

So I started. I cut a lot of the smaller side branches to make space to work and stacked them at the curb, and then started on the bigger piece. It's hard work and takes a long time, pecan isn't the hardest hardwood but it's still pretty tough. Eventually, the 40-ish son of the woman across the street came walking over and showed me (by raising his arm) that he was carrying a chainsaw, and said "I can make short work of those big cuts if you'd like"

And he was right - he did in less than five minutes what would have taken me an hour of hard work. I explained I was going to see if a friend wanted it for smoking meat, and he nodded, and I thanked him for his work. He said "no problem" and I have heard from other people that "when you know how to use it, chainsawing is fun, and sometimes you look for an excuse to use the chainsaw." And anyway, he didn't have to offer if he hadn't wanted to.

So anyway, as I said on Twitter: suck it, tree guy:

I need to go and rake the little twigs out of the lawn so I can mow tomorrow, and I do want to do some cleaning/pitching. But maybe this counts as my exercise for today?

Yes, we've had no-show tree guys.
And yes, if someone with a chainsaw wants to trim our bushes, I'm saying YES.
