I had briefly contemplated going to Sherman, but (a) the purchase of a new $80 microwave suggests additional spending right now is perhaps not so great and (b) It poured hard most of the day (and apparently south of us got it worse) so staying home seemed better.
(Yes, I will have to read the papers tomorrow, and also grab a soil sample for Monday's lab - the last soils lab is the soil-organism lab, which at least is less stressful on me. But after going out in the heavy rain to the grocery stores, I didn't feel like running back up to campus, can do that after church tomorrow).
So anyway. I did the necessary shopping (got the makings of that skillet macaroni and cheese I like, and also another round of the piccadillo - ground beef from Pruett's, and wal-mart now carries some Tillamook cheese, and they had a Monterey Jack, which the mac and cheese calls for).
Put the car away. Did my Sunday school lesson, found an offering meditation (I am doing it tomorrow because of the baptisms; the minister needs time to change and I am probably the next most logical person to do it; I think perhaps the congregational chairperson is assisting with the baptisms). Finished my piano practice in good time (two new pieces to work on - one a Burgmuller exercise from the exercise book, but his pieces are more like actual songs than just exercises. And also another Mendelssohn piece:
(Actually it's "ON the Seashore," that's a typo)
I really love Mendelssohn, and a lot of his "songs without words" are easy enough (with some effort) for a non-virtuoso like me to play. They're interesting and JUST challenging enough without being frustrating. No, I'm not that far on it yet, but I can hear the opening bars of it starting to sound "right" to me.
And then I decided to relax. I work too hard anyway, I think. My house is fairly clean thanks to piano lesson yesterday. I can get the work for next week done tomorrow.
One thing I did - remove the old nail polish from my toes. And then I put on a pair of those Tony Moly foot-exfoliator booties (I did one before but it didn't totally eat through my horrible calluses; I think maybe doing one every couple weeks for a while will be necessary). The alcohol used as a preservative (I presume) in these tends to eat a little of the nail polish off your toenails so it's best to remove and redo the polish after.
(I think I will go with another purple - I had Tourmaline on there but will change it to "Daydreamer," a lighter purple. It's still Lent and, if it's not too sacrilegious, it amuses me to have purple nail polish - the color of Lent. Yes, I might change it to another color before next Sunday)
I need to wash my hair and I think I'm going to try a vinegar final rinse again - it's getting a little buildup (it's a tradeoff between "dry hair" and "gunky hair," I guess). I can wash off the dregs of the foot stuff while doing that....I am still waiting on the rest of it to absorb.
I'm also watching DuckTales (re-runs, but still, they're good. This is one reboot that's really good - huh. Maybe reboots of cartoons are better than reboots of live-action for some odd reason?) And I'm knitting on the "socks for the deputy headmistress." I do want to start another pair of socks soon; I found a new (free) pattern on Ravelry: Oma's Sokken. I like it because of the historical angle but also it's a simple-but-not-boring pattern that should work with a speckled, variegated, or striping yarn - I'll have to dig in my stash and see what appeals to me for them. (I also want to look at more patterns from that shop: I suspect a lot of folks who offer free patterns on Ravelry find they get more traffic to their stores for paid patterns then - if you like the free pattern, you may well see something else you want to spend $5 or $8 on (the usual price range for Ravelry patterns)
Later I might switch to working on Ocellus; I would like to get her finished.
I also changed the sheets on my bed last night which does seem to have helped my allergies a bit. I guess I am tracking pollen in even though I usually shower before bed and also change into pajamas.
But yeah. A peaceful day at home is good; I need more of these.
(I still might go to Sherman this coming Friday, when I have the day off)
