(The most likely, and most-desired better news: a call from my mom saying "Wow, I feel so much better, I guess I had been sick with this for a while and the antibiotics are working now!")
I do need to go in for a bit tomorrow: I wrote one of the two exams for next week and also graded the exam I gave, but I need to update the final exam for Soils and I need to write an exam for next week.
But there are two small pieces of good news:
1. The Ford place (they have a new service-department manager, a woman, and I think she's an improvement) has promised me that they will get me back to campus in the morning on Monday (she said: "If I have to drive you myself, I'll do it") and even better: They will BRING MY CAR BACK TO ME. So I don't have to go out and get it. One of my colleagues *did* offer to drive me but because it's the first interview-day, scheduling might be difficult. So having them bring my car back is huge, I will just have to be available to meet them to get my key back. (Because it's a recall repair, I presume I will be charged $0. At any rate: Takata should totally foot the bill on this, it was their bad)
2. My Doki Doki crate came today. It was on the front porch (And NOT STOLEN) when I got home. Even though I now have "informed delivery" I didn't see this listed....though maybe it was the "package from San Diego" that I assumed was the box of checks I ordered (those came too)...I guess those came from Kansas.
I might open it later, right now I'm going to faff online a bit and also wind the collapsed cake of yarn from the James Brett "Northern Lights" shawl that has been my invigilating project - the yarn came in a cake, and the cake kind of caved in and it all tangled.
(And sadly, I see that A Balanced Skein - where I bought it - has permanently closed. Dangit. I wondered if there was enough of a knitting customer base to support them. Quixotic Fibers is still going but they are closer to Dallas and they have a bigger store.... But I LONG for things that *I* like and use to be available near me. I feel completely resentful that my county has 18 CBD or medical cannabis shops, and yet not a single bookstore. I know probably 80% of those shops won't survive a year, but....I would really like to see more businesses I would use. There's the quilt shop and the gourmet shop (and I don't even shop there all that much, there's only so often I need kitchen stuff and they don't sell a lot in the way of "fancy foods" that I would use) and that's about it....everything else is a long drive or mail order and yes, I know, mail/internet shopping killed a lot of small local businesses but it wasn't like we had much in 1999 when I moved here and the web-of-commerce was a lot smaller than now....)
At any rate: I need to wind it into a ball before my next set of exams so I can continue to knit from it. OR I need to wind off some other yarn and start something new...
This is what you call "yarn barf":
And finally - after 9 pm, after finishing piano practice and trying to get the closest thing to an Italian ice I could get in town (but Braums was apparently out of sherbet, so I wound up with a cherry limeade instead, and theirs are not as good as Sonic's) and finishing Sunday school lesson, I am opening the Doki Doki crate:
At least Doki Doki loves me. (I have not really felt the love this week)
Kirby themed sleep mask. I guess I can trade this out with the other one I have (I am still sleeping with it on most nights; I seem to sleep more soundly).
Rilakkuma towel. These are a little small for things like hair towels, but I guess (SIGH) since I don't have a dishwasher right now, I can lay it out and use it to drain forks and spoons on.
Pencil pouch? I guess. But it would be big enough to carry circular needles for traveling knitting.
The plushie, perhaps the best thing in the crate. Rainbow shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo. They say it's made of "Japanese pajama material" and I guess Japanese houses are chillier than American ones because I would find pajamas that fuzzy to be too warm.
ETA, Saturday afternoon: Have named the rainbow shark "Huey" which amuses me far more than it probably should.
There's also a little Kirby nightlight, but I need to fine a tiny screwdriver to undo the bottom to put batteries in. This might be my favorite thing once I get it working. (it will be useful if the power goes out)
These do lately seem to have more "practical" items in them, that can actually be used.
