my birthday dinner
Yup, they had all the things I wanted. (Sometimes they either run out of certain sides, or don't prepare certain ones on given days: understandable, as they have a list of about fifteen possible sides).
This is from the local place (Main Street Barbecue) and it is very good (I don't know why I don't think of them more regularly when I need a "treat" meal). Pulled pork, smoked sausage, mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, roll. (I added butter. And I cracked open a sparkling water to drink to cut through some of the richness)
I also have a cupcake but I'm kind of stuffed right now (yes, I ate all of it) so I might have that later on, closer before bed.
So yeah, it was a pretty good day. (The "little gift" was a couple packages of a kind of noodle I like, but can't find here, and a set of linen napkins that came from one of my grandmothers - I suppose my mom figures I might actually use them, unlike my brother, though the fanciest one I might turn into the top of a throw pillow instead) and a kit for a quilt block.)
Weather looks iffy. It was okay when I was out but awfully raw and humid, and it's supposed to drop below freezing overnight. I am hoping if it gets bad enough for it to be unsafe for some folks to come in that they just cancel the classes; I give an exam in one class tomorrow and it's always a little woeful to work out make-ups for people who can't get in to campus. (Also Monday might be bad here, and while I hate missing a soils lab, if the roads are unsafe...several people in that class have at least a half-hour commute)
