First up - apparently the ad hominems in the wake of Harvey have begun - many aimed at Joel Osteen for not opening his megachurch to people displaced by the storm. I don't know. I don't know the whole story so I'm not gonna comment (other than to remember in 2005, I spent most of an evening down at church here because we thought we might be getting people traveling to escape Rita and we had Red Cross cots and cooked up a big pot of stew.....and then no one every showed up. (I think they took the stew to the firefighters, if I remember correctly))
But yeah. And there are, as always, some people on social media who are quick to say "LOOK THIS IS EVIDENCE THAT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE HYPOCRITES" and folks, I can't. I can't any more. As I said to a friend on Twitter: it's that kind of thing that may drive me from social media eventually, that "This one person belongs to a group I am pre-inclined to disagree with, and they did something I judge as bad, therefore everyone in the whole entire group everywhere in the world is a problem."
And yeah, it's the old "puling mass of humanity" vs. "beloved individual people who still have weird quirks" that I talked about (and how I can love almost everyone I know a bit about, but find humanity as a mass hard to deal with).
But anyway. I'm tired, y'all. Tired of humanity and some of its ways. And yes, I know: I'm still proud of those humans who became the "Cajun Navy" and got people to safety. And the guy who runs Furniture Gallery, who opened his stores up to people fleeing the floor, essentially saying "Furniture stores have beds and couches, and we'll even feed you" and that sort of thing. And I prefer to focus on that, and at one time I could better, but there are SO many people poking their ugly little icepicks in that it's hard for me to keep that bubble of "There are good and decent people in the world" going.
(I didn't get over to the Business Office to donate to the scholarship for Brandon today, but yesterday I did sent a bit of money to my denomination's Week of Compassion because they are helping out with recovery from Harvey. I have to go down onto main campus tomorrow anyway because I probably have to talk face-to-face to someone about "how are we going to get the AAUW booklet covered so I don't have to pay the 10 cent a page "non university office" charge out of my own pocket")
But anyway. I do need to focus on other things. I did a Google Image Search on "Happy Cute Pictures" and was not disappointed (mostly cute small animals, a few comics, a few pictures of smiling babies)
But also today, my newest (old) ponies came - more G3s, because I found two I really wanted and the third one was a good deal and didn't really add to the shipping.
The first of the "I really want this one" is Merryweather - yellow pony, pink hair (my favorite combination:
It's very hard to see but she has glitter on her forehead - I guess some of the G3s had that as a feature. That's nice; I like glitter. Glitter is one of those little things that makes things better.
This is either a later year, or meant to be a young pony, or something - Hono-loo-loo. She's smaller than the other two, and is a winged pony. Small and cute and I really like the color combination and the Hawaii tie-in (The farthest I have ever been from home in my life is a couple of trips to Hawaii when I was a college student - my dad used to lead workshop trips to learn about the volcanoes, and he paid the rest of our way if we wanted to go)
And then finally Cactus Rose, who just has a pretty color scheme, and also has the botanical tie-in (and more forehead glitter)
Her hair needs a little attention; when I get some time I should gently comb it out to smooth it.
(I need a little attention and someone or thing to figuratively comb me out to smooth me....)
I think this is going to be an early night - complete my piano practice, maybe knit a bit, and maybe even take a warm bath with a bath fizzy and see if I can finish reading Freeman Willis Croft's "Death in the Channel" (A pretty good golden-era British mystery; I bought another one of his books - "The Hog's Back Murder," maybe - after realizing I enjoyed reading about Inspector French.)
