Little more news

More information has come out on the murder of our former student who was hotel-clerking.

I'm not going to share most of the details with you because now that I have them in my head, I don't want you to have to have them too. I wish they hadn't given them on the news story and more had focused on his cousin who is kind of the spokesperson for the family.

But one thing she said struck me (and made me sad all over again): the young man was working there to save up money for graduate school. Who knows how far he might have gone or what good he might have done, and because of stupid greed on another person's part, his family is robbed of him and he doesn't get to live out his destiny. (It makes me both sad and angry).

They have set up a scholarship in his memory here. Come Monday I'm going to look into what is needed to donate to it, and try to figure out what an appropriate amount would be. (I'm guessing even $20 would help).

Ugh, I don't know. I think of something my dad said years ago about a slightly-similar situation, where someone just going about their life was killed in a robbery: "The wrong person died there." And granted - I don't even wish death on the people who harmed this guy (because an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind) but I really heartily wish it had not played out the way it did.
