I often write my blogposts during slack times of my office hours. But, I discovered after class today - our internet connection in my building was gone. I asked the secretary, she said she didn't have any either. I called it in and they said they had no "ETA" on its return.
Which is...unsettling. I do a lot of my work online, I post stuff on BlackBoard for my classes....and I'm not even sure if we'll be able to print. So. Unless it came back overnight (somehow I am not sanguine, given the tone with which the helpdesk guy delivered the news), there may be no morning blogpost, and I may not spend my usual time checking in other places.
I hope they have it fixed because its' Scary New Class and if I need to quick fact-check something before class....well, I guess I can use the indexes on the books I have but they're not exactly 100% up to date, so.
No idea what happened, if someone pulled the wrong cable somewhere or if something blew out or what. The campus webpage is up and accessible from home, so I assume it's just my building that's affected, but still: frowny face.
Then again: if it's not back by the time I walk out of Faculty Meeting at 1 pm tomorrow, I guess that means I save the paper I'm editing to a flash drive, bring it home here, call up the ITIS site from here, and edit at home. It's less convenient to do so but whatever. I need to get it done. And I don't want to come in Saturday, have tentative plans* to go antiquing in Sherman.
(*Tentative, because if I hear that gas shortages in the wake of Harvey are likely, I might consider just scrapping the trip in the interest of saving the nearly-full-tank of gas I have for running around town in the coming week. Then again: I suspect the shortages are not likely to hit here right away, maybe I top it off Friday afternoon and if I can get gas on the way back into town on Saturday, do that.)
