Honestly, I'm more shaken by Alan Rickman's death (announced this morning) than I was by David Bowie's.
Then again, as I've said before: Rickman was someone I would happily listen to read the phone book, he had that kind of *voice*. And that smile. There was something about his smile that made my heart turn over a little. I don't generally react to many celebrities the way many women do, but Rickman was one of those....
(So is Mike Rowe. Dangit, someone better put a cordon around Mike Rowe and be sure he stays safe for a while at least. And he's ANOTHER person I could happily sit and listen to him read the phone book out loud. Edited to add: And Patrick Stewart, who is both British and closer to Rickman's age so some people on Twitter are suggesting he needs to be protected as well.)
Also I have seen a number of his movies in recent years, not least the Harry Potter movies (well, up through Goblet of Fire - I still never got to reading the later books and I'd rather read the books FIRST before seeing the movies). And he was in "Sense and Sensibility" and he would have been the one I picked had I been Eleanor or Marianne....
As I said over on Ravelry, I have a full day of teaching today but in my heart I will be hanging out in a blanket fort (built around my tv and dvd player), rewatching the different movies I know him from.
And then there's this:
I think that ending bit (him flipping the table) sums up how many (most?) of us feel about cancer.
(A good family friend - the husband of someone my dad worked along side of for many years - is suffering through leukemia right now. And I've had too many friends and relatives die of various forms of cancer).

Oh no! I hadn't heard that yet. :-(
If you can find anything with Roger Allam in (he's in the Morse prequel, Endeavour, which I also think you might like) he has a similar voice, which I love.
So, so sad about Alan :-(
