No church services tomorrow. (That's incredibly rare. I only remember one other time, in the nearly fifteen years I've been here, that they were, and I think that was because of a power outage). Of course, our minister being stuck in Fort Worth and unable to safely leave is part of that.
But I will say: good call. I went down and prepared communion this morning (just in case) and the streets are solid ice. Also, the CWF dinner for Monday night is cancelled, which takes away my concern of "How will I manage to get a jicama between now and then?" (Heh. That almost sounds like a Pinkie Pie problem: "But if I can't get a jicama, it won't work out!")
(I have been watching the neighbor's teen kids sliding up and down my street on their Heelies, and while it looks fun, I hope no one falls and breaks a wrist....)
I did get to the Green Spray (which is kind of on the way home from the church) and got more milk (I could only get 2% - they were running low, but I've read of late that maybe butterfat ISN'T the evil we were all taught it was) and butter and some veggies....so I'm set.
The butter was for cookie-making, which I guess will continue tomorrow, since I have nothing to leave the house for. I can mix up the batch of "Santa's Whiskers" (essentially, rich refrigerator cookies with chopped cherries in them, and then coconut on the outside) tonight and chill them over night and bake them tomorrow.
The cookies are to share with my department but I may bring the extras to the rescheduled AAUW party along with my meatballs....because I wound up inadvertently making a double batch of the almond fingers I always do. (It had been long enough since I made cookies that I forgot that one stick of butter = 1/2 cup, and I wound up with two sticks in the bowl. But I realized my mistake early on and just doubled the recipe.)
Oh, and something funny, and also In Case You Ever Wondered if Squirrels are Smart:
My neighbor's gas furnace is outdoors (Yeah, I don't know. It's a new unit). It has a vent on the side that blows out warmish air when the furnace runs. One of the squirrels in my neighborhood has figured out that it can sit down in the pile of dead leaves (that the snow has melted off of) under this vent and get warm air blown on it. So when the furnace is running, it sits there and eats pecans, and then when the furnace shuts off, it climbs back up into the tree until it comes back on....

You have to assume that Pinkie would have jicama stashed all over town, in case of jicama emergency.
The Santa's Whiskers sound interesting, although no one else in my immediate family likes coconut.
