CPH Number 2

I mentioned the largest thing (well, actually the ONLY thing) I finished over break was the Central Park Hoodie. I used Berroco's "Vintage" for this - a wool-acrylic blend. I THINK I bought nine skeins of it (maybe 10, I don't keep particularly good records). I have three and a part - just over 600 yards- left. (I do think yarn-amount calculations for the larger sizes of sweaters - not that this was one so very large, it was kind of in the upper range of medium - err on the side of liberality). Oh well, I can make scarves or something out of what's left.

(Crud. New Flickr hides how to "share" -i.e., grab the code for - pictures. Ugh. I did find it finally but I guess they're trying to encourage people to ONLY look at photos on their website? That's what it feels like).

Anyway. I spent quite a bit of time thinking about buttons for this. I narrowed it down to two choices. This is what I selected:

The other option were metal shank-type buttons with kind of a whorl pattern on them. They were nice, but - sewing shank buttons on to knitwear, ugh. (Sewing shank buttons onto anything is kind of an ugh as far as I am concerned. I find it a lot harder to do neatly than with the two or four hole type buttons).

They are metal but are very lightweight - probably aluminum.

Here's a closeup of the buttons with the cables (I am wearing the sweater at the time:)

While I used the sweater yarn for the sewing-up, I used the closest-matching embroidery floss I could find to sew on the buttons. (It's stronger, and also sometimes less likely to "cut" the knit than ordinary thread is)

The sweater fits well.

It's always good to finish a sweater.

It does also have a hood, but I will probably only wear that when it's extremely cold:

Both because it's very warm, and also because the hood does look a little bit goofy.  At any rate, this sweater will have to go down for a nap until October or so.
