That's not quite the first 40 rows of the Alpenglow sock from Around the World in Knitted Socks. Most of that progress came over the past few days...I finally figured out how the pattern worked (in the sense of getting the rhythm of the cable crossings) and once I can do that, it goes a lot faster. From this big diamond, then there are a couple of "trails" that come out and are worked into a crossed pattern that is traditionally known as "Forgotten Love" (A lot of knitting patterns have sort-of-obscure names, but then, so do quilt blocks: "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight" comes to mind (which refers to Manifest Destiny and therefore, I suppose, represented a political statement on the part of the quilter).
There won't be any embargoed posts over break...didn't really have time to write any and my internet connection at home has gone all sludgy, I don't know if it's that a lot of other subscribers on my system woke up and started watching the Olympics online or something, but I was watching something on YouTube and the whole thing froze and crashed. Oh well. I do need to get on to packing....

Bon voyage! Enjoy your vacation!
Wow - Beautiful. I've been such a slug this summer - no knitting to speak of. Just too hot and dry and then too busy.
