The whole issue that ate my life last week was a late student paper. Student has "issues" and so got an admin to call me and 'arrange' an extension.
Because I am unfortunately easily bullied by people in authority, I granted a week's extension. The week is up at 5 pm today.
It is 4:53 by my computer clock. I have not heard anything from the student. I have been here all day except for my lunch hour - during which I put a note on the door indicating when I would be back, the time I was giving an exam - during which I put a note on the door asking him to give the paper to the administrative assistant, and a quick run early in the morning to drop something off in an office on campus.
This is infuriating. I guess this is one of those "if you give a mouse a cookie" situations. I am going to stay here until one minute past five pm, which is one minute later than any faculty member not teaching night classes could reasonably be expected to be on campus.
I don't know whether to call the admin who set up the extension or not. I REALLY don't want to. I don't think it's my place to. I've told my chair that I'd rather not and she agrees with me on this.
I'm just DONE. I am a crispy critter, mentally speaking. This has taken far more of my energy and good will than it should.
On the one hand, I just want to see the person in question face the consequences of his actions for once. On the other hand....I really don't want to deal with a grade-challenge from him, or a demand for an incomplete, or any of the many things that are set up for legitimate emergencies.
Dang it all.

You're done. As you say. Award the grade and call it a day, knowing the story isn't over yet but you have held up more than your end of the bargain. Be tough FJ! You can do it!
