Future project thoughts

Oh so many things I want to make.

I'm already thinking about what I want to take with me over break to work on. I think I'm going to (at least partly) have a UFO blow-out, where I try to finish the two pairs of complex socks that are on the needles (The Little Ice Age socks and the other twisted-stitch socks). And the Oscilloscope Shawl. But I also want to make

-the Pianissimo Mittlets from the new Interweave knits. This is the pattern I bought the beige laceweight for on Thursday.

-A stuffed BMO ("Beemo") from Adventure Time. One person's version can be seen here. But mine is going to be knitted; I am going to base the design on Anna Hrachovec's television pattern, just making the "body" longer and more rectangular, and using felt for the buttons and stuff. And maybe using I-cord for the arms and legs. I'm not sure if I'll make the plug-in controller or if I'll let BMO "free range." I like the idea of a "free ranging" BMO better.

Why make a BMO? Because he's* cute and because I can.

(*For the longest time, I thought BMO was a girl, because of the voice, but several times in the show recently he's been referred to as "he")

- a stuffed Brontosaurus (Another wonderful Rebecca Danger pattern). I'm going to do the worsted-weight version, in two shades of green. If the bronto I make comes out well....I could see making one in the future for a nephew or niece. I can see this being the kind of toy a small child would like.

- I might also carry along the Robot pattern of hers that I never got around to doing.

Why so many toys? It's been a rough semester and my inner child feels like it needs soothing. I might even admit my bronydom to my parents and bring along the makings for Lyra. Not that they'd care or think it weird; they know I like cartoons. Heck, my mom likes SpongeBob.

- At least start the leaf-shawl using the crayon-colored laceweight I bought this week.

I'm also considering buying a dress pattern - either buying it here and taking it up there, or what would be easier, buying it up there and making it there - I had seen Simplicity's "Amazing Fit" 2247 (pattern can be seen here) somewhere on someone's blog and really liked it. I was really happy with the "Amazing Fit" dresses I made last summer, so I think I want to do another one. I like to wear dresses - I find them more comfortable in the warm weather than slacks are, and I DO NOT wear shorts, so dresses or skirts are the best warm-weather wear. And when you make a dress yourself, you can custom fit it and pick whatever fabric makes you happy. Usually I go for brighter, clearer colors than what is shown in the dress shops. Lately, so many of the fashion colors have just been things that look muddy and sad on someone with my complexion. I know what I need to look good - either bright clear pastels or jewel tones. Fortunately, the colors I look best in are also colors that make me happy when I am wearing them.

I'd rather take the time and trouble to MAKE a dress for myself than go shopping for dresses. It's not necessarily cheaper when you factor in the cost of the pattern and good material and things like zippers...except, it kind of is, when you really do a comparison on a quality basis.

I checked out those amazing fit patterns - the skirt pattern is very flattering and the pants are almost enough to make me want to try my pants skills out after about 20 years. Thanks for the info!

I like that dress pattern. I'm sure you'll do a good job with it and enjoy it.

But good heavens you have enough knitting/crocheting lined up to take with you that you'll need all summer to accomplish that ... unless those projects are a lot closer to completed than you've indicated.

I knew I liked your mom. Take the Bronydom home
