Over the weekend, I finished the first of the "Twilight Sparkle" socks:
They're super effective! (Sorry, lame joke. My "Twilight Sparkle uses LECTURE! It's Super Effective!" t-shirt came Saturday, so I washed it up and decided to take it with me for a pajama top.)
I find myself returning again and again to the four "simple ribbed sock" patterns that Nancy Bush transcribed from old issues of Weldon's for self striping or self patterning yarns. This one has a very wide rib (p1, k2, p1, k6) on the leg and foot, and a "horseshoe" heel (yes, that still amuses me, that I am using that heel with this yarn colorway) and a star toe.
That's one of the fun things about knitting socks for me. Even when you're just doing "simple" ones without any kind of real stitch pattern, there are enough heel and toe and cuff and ribbing variations that you don't have to do the same thing every single time.
I'm all packed and ready to go. I don't have to leave town until 2 pm or so, because otherwise then I wind up booting around Mineola for a while without really anything to do. I'm going to write a few more "embargoed" posts, grab some lunch...I already added water and fertilizer to my culture of duckweed in the lab so they'll hopefully keep going, and I set up the 'aquaglobes' on my houseplants (goofy commercial, but the things really do work for watering over vacation) and took the trash out and unplugged anything with a heating element (I don't KNOW that that poses a fire risk, but better safe than sorry). My friends know to watch my house to make sure everything is cool....I'll probably get the classic "oh no, I'm forgetting something" when I'm about an hour down the road but I really can't think of anything I've forgot right now.

My microwave recently started spontaneously turning on and heating. If you have one, it makes sense to unplug it. Have a good time on your break.
Have a good break. You've certainly earned it.
