And I'm done...

The person who has been a thorn in my side this semester - because of attitude and general sense of entitlement out of all proportion - passed my class.

That means this person graduates.

I wish them all the luck in the world in the working world. Because with their attitude, they will need it. I also wish all the luck and mental peace in the world to the person's future bosses and co-workers.

Other things I will not miss now that this semester is over:

1. Having to eat my lunch 3 and sometimes 4 days a week at 10:30 am, and then be in class for a four-hour block without a break.

2. NOT having class until 11 am. I'm a morning person and I would spend those early hours over-prepping to teach and then would not get much research work done.

3. Every-other-week faculty meetings whether we needed them or not. (That will probably return come fall, though).

4. That one student in one of my classes who made disgusting jokes about having "gotten a 69" on an exam. I'm an adult and I know what that means. And I also appreciate ribald jokes in some contexts. BUT NOT IN MY CLASS. And I find myself wondering if there's a point where a professor can call out a student for sexual harassment/general rude crude behavior and actually have it have consequences for the student.

On the other hand, I WILL miss my soils class, who were a lot of fun and were the kind of class I could joke around with (not in a crude disgusting way, like the student in #4). And they were really diligent in lab this year, which led to a lot of them earning higher grades than they were expecting.

And I will miss several of my PI students who were really nice, really friendly, and really good students. Except I will probably see them again in Ecology and maybe Biostatistics, unless they transfer or change majors.
