Because it's Thursday

Wednesdays are my longest teaching day. And last night, I took home a stack of grading. (I did, however, start a new pair of "simple" socks - I needed something for invigilating knitting today. Yes, the round of tests begins.)

So I'm ganking a list that Lynn ganked from somewhere else.

1. Favorite candy - Chocolate. Preferably fancier chocolate. (Yes, I can tell a difference.) My current favorite, I think, is the Lindt "with a touch of sea salt." Partly because the little bit of saltiness makes the chocolate all that more flavorful, and partly because I like to think of it freaking out the no-salt, no-sugar, no-fun brigade. (OMG YOU HAVE SALT IN YOUR CHOCOLATE YOU BAD PERSON YOU)

2. Favorite movie - I don't think I have a single favorite. I have lots I'm fond of - "Ball of Fire," "Trading Places," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "People Will Talk," and yes, also Lynn's favorite - "Secondhand Lions," which I think is a seriously underrated movie.

As you can see, I mostly like comedies.

3. Favorite drink - Hot tea, current favorite is probably Adagio tea's "Happy Sorceress Chocolate Mint" blend

4. Favorite dessert - Chocolate cake, but not the awful goopy from-a-mix cake that a lot of restaurants serve - no, I prefer the humbler sort of homemade cake that most people used to know how to make. (I have a very good recipe for an Earl Grey Tea chocolate cake, which also has the benefit that it's not overly sweet. I don't like cakes when they're TOO sweet.)

5. Favorite city - I'm really not a fan of cities. I like going to Longview because it has interesting shopping, but it's not a LARGE city and I don't think I'd care to live there. St. Louis looks interesting though I've never spent much time there. Portland looks interesting too but I don't think I would want to live there.

6. Favorite pastime - making stuff. Or reading.

7. Favorite clothing - Dresses, with some kind of a nice sweater to go over them when it's cold out. I like dressing like a girl.

8. Favorite animal - I tend to like exotic animals: kangaroos, elephants, giraffes. Not a fan of monkeys, though, and I certainly wouldn't want any of the things I've listed as a pet. (If I had a lot of land and a lot of time, I'd consider getting alpacas, another favorite animal, but one that does reasonably well in captivity).

9. Favorite flower - Tulips, even though you have to go to considerable effort (digging up and refrigerating the bulbs, then replanting in the fall) if you want them to bloom here. I also like carnations.

10. Favorite music - Mostly baroque. J.S. Bach is my all-time favorite composer and if I could only listen to one composer's music for the rest of my life, it would be his. But I also have a fondness for some of the Eastern European romantics and some of the British Light Music composers. And Strauss waltzes. And a lot of "light classical" and operetta music in general. (As I've said before: I wish life was more like, I don't know, a Lehar operetta, with people breaking into song and dance at random times, and fantastic clothing, and everyone winds up happy at the end.)
