made the decision

I talked to my department chair this morning, then I e-mailed Jona. I will not be teaching summer 2011, instead, I will be running around looking at plants and counting things and trying not to get bit by ticks.

It's been a moderately awful morning on other fronts, so having a summer working alongside a person I work well with, doing something different than dealing with multiple other humans, some of whom have strange ideas re: positions of power and serving other people, is definitely something to look forward to.

Of course, I'll have to be more frugal this fall and winter - less book-buying, for example.

Oddly enough - shortly after I "pulled the trigger" on this decision, I got an e-mail from a publisher, wanting me to do a tiny bit of reviewing work (that will take me less than 1/2 hour, it looks like). My pay? A $25 Amazon gift card. I have to laugh a little and wonder if this means my decision was the right one.

I think it sounds like a very sensible and healthy decision -- for both yourself and your career. :)

Some time off sounds wonderful. I don't know if $25 will cover the whole summer, though.

Good for you! You'll have a wonderful time with a different routine and come back refreshed. And you'll have the added benefit of making space in your stash for New Stash!
