Whoa, someone on my Twitter stream mentioned the Ozark Medieval Fortress in Lead Hill, AR.
That is not unmanageably far from me. (And even though it's not slated to be "done" until 2030, they're doing tours now).
Hm. Fall break trip, maybe? It sounds kind of cool. And it's not too far from either Siloam Springs or Eureka Springs, which might also have interesting stuff.

Ooo! If you do ever go to Siloam Springs be sure to visit Sager Creek Quilt and Yarn Works.
There was an article about this castle in last Sunday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch. You could probably get to it from STLToday.com. It's been years since I've been to Eureka Springs but I know there are little boutiques there, a Passion Play outdoors in the evening, a large Christ of the Ozarks statue outside of town as well as a small glass chapel called something like Thornhill Chapel. And, of course, Eureka Springs is only about 50 miles or so from Branson, MO where there are lots of theaters, shopping malls, etc. Just across the lake from Branson is Hollister, MO where the School of the Ozarks is. It has a neat museum with one of the original Beverly Hillbillies cars in it.
