This is my birthday month.
I haven't, the past few years, tried baking myself a cake - usually the departmental secretary makes a cake for "everyone" on the day of someone's birthday (or maybe she just does it for the single folks...). But this year, I might make one.
Because, Nutella Pound Cake. I like nutella and I have quite a bit on hand...I forgot I had a jar on the shelf when I picked up a new jar. And I don't eat it (on toast and such) as much as I once did.
(I am going to be baking two other cakes this month, one for the CWF meeting and one for AAUW. I've already decided to do the good old hot-milk sponge cake for each, and then to get some frozen strawberries or raspberries or both and make a fruit sauce and serve it with the fruit sauce and/or whipped cream. I'm not a big fan, as I've said before, of making frosting for cakes, and frankly, by this time of year I think most people are hungry for some kind of fruit dessert that makes you think of summer, even if the fruit on it is frozen rather than fresh).
Also, my birthday is on a Saturday (the last Saturday of the month). And I am right now, stating here, that NO ONE is going to be able to "make plans" for me. Any on-campus stuff that crops up? I already have plans for that day. Any workdays doing volunteer stuff? I already have plans for that day. Anyone looking for a lackey to do some thankless task for them? I already have plans for that day.
I think people should, at the very least, get to do what they want on their birthday when that day falls on a non-work day.
And no, I'm not going to TELL anyone who tries to make plans for me that my existing plans are going antiquing and quilt-fabric shopping in McKinney, because when people find out your plans are "fun" plans, sometimes the guilt trips come out.

Good on ya!
I had a boss some years back, who said, "I don't work on my birthday." He would take the day off, and that was that.
Now, I don't work on MY birthday.
I will hold your plans for yourself mindfully. Enjoy your trip!
