I came home from completing some fieldwork (I decided to take the time to shower and change clothes, seeing as there had been a lot of ticks at the site).

And I got a nice surprise. (Well, I also got an icky surprise, but that was easily dealt with)

The moss roses I planted last night all opened up!

Portulaca

I hadn't realized how many buds were on the plants - most plants have at least 2 blooms on them, a few have more. I guess they're going to do OK in this garden.

portulaca and zinnia

I had watered the plants well last night after I planted them. The portulaca looked pretty bedraggled after that but I guess they perked up over night, and then when they reached the time of day for their flowers to open, they all opened up.

(You can also see a zinnia in that photo).

I do have some red and pink together, and I know it's a little clashy, but I'm hoping the red salvia will attract butterflies or hummingbirds.

(The icky surprise? Two ticks walking around on the INSIDE of my t-shirt. I guess it was smart to come home and shower and change clothes rather than going back over to work right away.)
