More ripping.

(Earlier this fall, I ripped out about 10" of knitting on the Cobblestone Pullover after realizing that that "alternate balls to prevent color variations" thing on the label of Araucania isn't an optional suggestion).

Well, the other night I realized that I had made a mistake somewhere on the My So-Called Scarf - not only had I done something wrong many rows back that left a little gap (which I originally decided was a "won't see it from a galloping horse" mistake and left it), but then found I had somehow gotten from 30 to 28 stitches.

And I had been knitting the whole thing with the "slip passed stitch over then knit into the FRONT of the stitch" in the BACK of the stitch instead.

So, blah. I decided I'd never feel right about the scarf (and as a result, perhaps not wear it), so I ripped the whole thing out. All 12" or so. Ripping herringbone stitch is not fun, especially with a felty singles yarn like the Manos is.

But I cast back on and started doing it "right." And finally the pattern "gelled" in my mind, and I can do it with less concentration than I had to use before. And it looks a lot better. Like, really a lot. I got a decent amount knit on it last night while watching "Little Women" on TCM (it has been a good couple weeks for movies on that channel!)

(This was the older version, the one with Katharine Hepburn as Jo. I watched a little bit of the 1949 version - with June Allyson as an equally-good (IMHO) Jo - and would have watched more but I was just too tired to stay up more. And darn it, but they were showing "The Man who Came to Dinner" last night, but not until 12:15, way way too late for me. I hope they show it again, at a more amenable time for me, sometime.)

Happy Stir Up Sunday! Will you be making fruitcake again?

That scarf is really going to be beautiful.

My book group just read "TMWCTD" as our December play. We read one play or poem series in December as our holiday party. We especially liked the part about the penguins. Now, I'm going to tape the movie. Enjoy your holiday!
