weekend to relax.
Well, I set up the current germination experiment on Thursday, so all that means now is that in the morning I put the plates in the 30* incubator and in the afternoon I take them out and check for germination (I'm doing a 30* day/20* night cycle as per some other published work).
I worried pretty actively about getting that done and I think that was contributing to my stress last week. It took less time to set up all 42 plates (10 seeds per plate, half with extract, half with plain water) than I anticipated.
Also, my research student and I decided that with Youth Group moving to Sundays for me (guess I didn't mention that but I approached the Powers that Be and suggested a move-to-Sundays to make it easier on me, easier on the people cooking, and easier for the kids to get down to church), there wouldn't be time to sample on Sundays - so we're going to do Friday afternoons instead, much better for me.
And I evaluated the "Program Review" of the conservation program here (it's one of those things people in academia have to do...it's sort of a justifying our existence/proving we are doing our jobs right sort of thing that has to be written every year. Thank goodness my colleague Doug is willing to do the WRITING because it's a monster project. But we all need to read it and offer comments/advice.).
And I wrote an exam.
So I'm going to take the rest of the weekend off. Knit some, read some, quilt some. Generally be nice to myself. I find I have some....problems...with that sometimes. I tend to push myself too hard. (Even Doug has noticed that; on occasion he has told me to "go home" or "why are you here on a Saturday?")
