The meteorologists are now saying that Gustav (or, the remnants of Gustav) are going more north, and we're not going to get as much rain as originally thought.
I hope we get SOME, it has been very dry here.
I will say I could notice the weather was different this morning. Even before I went outside, my workout was a lot easier, which I think means the "dome of high pressure" has broken up. (I notice a lot of breathing difficulties when we're under high pressure. I don't think it's the pressure per se, but that it traps all the diesel exhaust and cooking smells and stale air and that's what affects me).
It was also windy this morning which is certainly a welcome change. Wind out of the north, which (if I remember the Buys Ballot rule properly) would suggest the lowest pressure is off to the east (on the left hand side with your back to the wind...that's how that rule goes, again if I remember correctly).
I will admit I was sort of hoping for heavy rains (though not severe weather), partly because it's been so dry but partly because there is something kind of exhilarating about a hard rain. (Well, at least if you're indoors and your house is on high ground...)

I worked on various things over the long weekend. I did more weed-removal from the garden (which is pretty much a never-ending job) and planted some beet seeds to see if I can get a fall crop.
I also worked a lot more on the second Go with the Flow sock, I am now working on the heel flap. Usually socks go a lot faster for me once I've turned the heel.
I'm also thinking about new socks. A couple of socks patterns that I was originally not-so-impressed by, when I see worked up by other knitters, I look at anew.
One of these is the Little Child's Sock from the Nancy Bush Vintage Socks book. In the book, the socks look kind of unfortunate - the top is all bunchy and funny and when I looked at them in the book, I was kind of "meh." But seeing another knitter's version makes me like them. (At least on the feet they do. The "empty" sock looks strangely planarian-like).
I haven't really contemplated which yarn I'd use for these yet.
Because I want to do another pattern first: Gentleman's half hose in ringwood pattern. Now, this was a pair I liked in the book...but the title of "Gentleman's" put me off, made me think, "Oh, this is one of those where I'd have to drop down a needle size or two to make them fit me, socks on 0s or 00s, ugh.
But Elinor made them, and they seem to fit her fine. (And in retrospect...the "Gentleman's Plain Winter Sock" fits me fine).
I really like the texture on this one. And it looks like it's a nice balance between easy, motor-along pattern and paying attention (decrease rows and such to shape the calf).
And I know what yarn I want to use...I have some Dream in Color sock yarn. (I don't like using its actual name, "Smooshy," because...ew. "smooshy" is how you describe a rotten banana). It's in a lovely russety brown with red overtones, a perfect fall color, which is called Chinatown Apple for some reason. So once I finish a pair (or two) of the socks I have going, that's going to be the next one up, because I think the color will be perfect for the pattern and vice versa.
