My mother swears I've already had "the worst part" of a root canal done (the tooth-shaping) but I'm not at all sure I believe her, based on the descriptions of the procedure I've read. So I hope it does not come to that. The one piece of good news is that I DO have dental insurance which pays something like 80% of the costs.

On to happier things.
I THINK it's OK for me to share a photo of the "clandestine knitting" I am doing here.
This is a pattern TChem has written and is getting a couple of people to proof it before she puts it up for sale:

It's an interesting pattern in that it's complex enough that you have to pay attention to it, but it's logical enough that you can catch yourself before you make an error. (If you were so disposed).
It is something that will require good blocking when it's done; I've just kinda-sorta pinned it out so the pattern opens up a little but I didn't take a lot of care. I think you can kind of get the sense of it from the photo.

That's gorgeous. The color and the pattern work well together.
I hope the appointment went well.

It does take to blocking. I blocked it right before I left Wisconsin and it was only okay, then I blocked it to death about a month ago and it draped out like crazy.
