Heh. Yeah, I noticed the brain-like terminology used for lichens (though trust me, medulla and cortex are about it - other than that, you have apothecia and soredia and isidia to worry about).
I wonder if there are Zombie Reindeer somewhere staggering around going "Lichens! Lichens!"

Trying to get prepared for traveling. As far as I can determine, the "bus bridge" I suffered through back in March is gone and the trains are actually running. So I'm going to operate under that assumption.
I need to wind off the rest of the Second Time Cotton - I've decided to take the SitCom Chic and work on it - I just need to find the short circular I use for the sleeves. I'm also taking the socks-in-various-stages-of-completion as well as some yarn for yet-unstarted socks (a very pretty pink and white blend - "Sonatina" - of the handpainted-style Wildfoote. I'm going to use a slipped-stitch pattern with this).
Also thinking about books. I hit the local paperback exchange (this is not the wonderful used-book shop in Denison) to see if they had any good mysteries. NO M.C. Beaton. NO Ngaio Marsh. NO Marjory Allingham. NO P.D. James. NO Rex Stout, though I think I own just about every mystery he wrote already. LOTS of John Grisham. (I'm not a fan). So I'm going to dig through what I have and figure out what to take from what I already possess and haven't read yet.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD! i was trying very hard to avoid the zombie reference, lol!
have you tried paperbackswap.com? it's free. you list paperbacks you don't want, and you get credits for shipping them out. you use your credits to request books from other people.
admittedly it's probably too late for your trip, but it's a thought.
