I think one of the reasons I like making things like socks and toys is that it's fairly easy to see your progress. With things like scarves (especially, because they're just a long rectangle), it can be harder. And sometimes when I feel like I'm not making progress on something, it's hard to be motivated to work on it.

So last night, when I sat down to knit on the Stansfield 27 scarf, I put a stitch marker at my starting point. (I put an arrow in the picture to make it easier to see)

That's about 2 hours worth of knitting. Perhaps that kind of thing - showing someone just how long it takes you to get a certain distance - is a good explanation for why either "knit me a sweater this weekend" or "I would pay you $10 to knit me a scarf like that!" don't work.
