Anne...thank you for the link. No, I had not seen the poem, so I looked it up. I bet that's a fun one to read out loud (or to recite from memory).
Has anyone had much experience ordering shoes either online or through catalogs? I've looked at Zappos (they have wonderful stuff, most of it out of the range I'm willing to pay for shoes, but still some more reasonable stuff). I have "funny feet" (narrow heel, wide-ish toe) and so I'm VERY hard to fit in shoes sometimes - is the "return if it doesn't fit right" really as easy as they make it sound? (Also, I never know my true size - I take a US 8 1/2 in athletic shoes but a 38 in Birks, which I'm told is like a 7 1/2. And for dress shoes, it's very hard to guess.)
I don't know. Maybe I just need to start looking around at what's here for sale, but I kind of hate the mall-trek for shoes.
(Perhaps I need to be more specific: I'm looking for either or both a new pair of clogs (my beloved Daniel Greens, purchased years ago from Sierra Trading Post, are about used up) and/or a pair of mary-jane type shoes. Either of which to be worn with handknit socks as winter casual shoes, or possibly with more casual skirts)

Each time I've ordered shoes online I've told myself never to do that again. I end up returning them all (and paying the return postage)! Lands End, Bernardo, LL Bean...now, if you tried on a pair of a good brand you could then order the exact twins of online, knowing they fit correctly, that might work.

I've ordered from Shoeline.com a few times, and had good luck. I did return one pair and it was painless. Shipping was *very* fast.

The only shoes I'm willing to order online are New Balance, and this is because their sizing seems to be consistent across all their lines and I always know what number to type into the little box.
Still, they have a local store, so I usually just go up there.
I haven't bought shoes online, but I was going to say that you could see if your dying clogs are still in production; I did that recently with my beloved hiking boots that I'd had for about 10 years. Exact same size and style: perfect!
And on the narrow-heel wide-toe thing, you might want to look at Keens. They're kind of funny looking but my husband says they're the only shoes he has where he has a good amount of toe-space, and his wear like iron. They don't fit me well at all, but I love the look of them.
