I'm going to leave the contest (see Friday's entry, below) up for one more day so I'm sure to allow everyone who wants a chance to enter. I'll announce the winner tomorrow.

I worked some on the interminable i-cord for the Greek pullover (yes, I do want to get that sewn up sometime). I have one section of the i-cord done and am working on the second. I also finished sewing all of the strips together for the Straits of Georgia quilt and began cutting the individual pieces to make blocks.

But, in the middle of this, I decided I needed some "almost instant gratification" knitting.

alien dude

This is a little (note the hardback books for scale) knitted alien dude, from the pattern at Bittersweet (she has some other neat toy patterns on there).

I didn't have exactly the right color green, so I just used some Lion Wool I had in the color they call "Lemongrass" (which is my favorite color of Lion Wool.) I decided I wanted my alien to have arms and hands, so I just made some short segments of 4-st i-cord, which I then increased to 8 sts for the hand part.

His name is Barney. You know how they say television signals float out into deep space, and supposedly life on other planets could pick it up, if they had the right equipment? Well, the planet Barney's from was picking up 1950s television shows, and his parents were big fans of a particular one. In fact, Barney has an older brother named Andy.

I also spent this weekend redecorating my mantel. I hadn't done much with it this summer, because summer is always kind of a "meh" season for me - I'm "meh" about a lot of things in summer; it's only when it starts to cool down that I feel better.

fall mantel

Yeah, yeah, I know I once said I hoped I'd never turn into that kind of woman who had silk flowers for every season. Whatever.

my mom started after my dad passed away. he hated flowers of all kinds, so they were rarely in the house. now, she has flowers all the time. and we give her flowers for all occasions. it's fine to be a silk flower lady.
