You really CAN find almost anything on the Internet.
I decided to try typing in "lady rain lamps" to see if I could find a link to the company or some pictures. And, hey presto: Rain Lamps
(There are tiny thumbnail photos at the bottom of the page of lamps "currently available on eBay"). I didn't realize there were that many different kinds - I just thought there was one of these things.
This is the style I remember from my childhood. As I said, I thought they were intriguing but secretly thought they were a bit tacky. (And I'm kind of disillusioned to find that the "rain" is actually some kind of oil. Ick. Couldn't that get messy, if, for example, you had a hyper dog that knocked the thing over?

I always liked the idea of a rain lamps but, like you, I thought they looked tacky. The little statue looked like a cheap toy and the cheap plastic greenery way too obvious. I wanted one but I wanted someone to make a better one.
