Well, I can't figure out how to make a wireless connection to the router. Guess I will have to hire someone. (At least that is from the local computer center, where the people are businesslike and better-than-merely-competent).
But I still can't get over my cable company's giving me a broken cable modem, and then spending days telling me that either I had set it up wrong, or my computer was broken, or that I was just some dumb flake who couldn't set it up correctly.
I'm toying with the idea of naming the name. You know, so if you have a choice, you can avoid them. I don't know. I'm happy to give it out to anyone who e-mails me privately, but I'm afraid if I posted it here someone might find out and retaliate by blocking my cable or giving me other problems. And frankly, I've had a year's share of technology problems in this week alone.
This is actually a rather large company that is found throughout (at least) the Southeast, Oklahoma, and Texas. (And possibly elsewhere). I do have to say my local office (once I got to talk to someone) was reasonably helpful, but the "central" helpdesk was helpless. And insulting - at one point, the man on the other end said in exasperation, "You click on the 'e' to get to the internet." (meaning: you stupid biddy, can you not even open the Internet Explorer browser correctly?) I got very cold with him after that, and threw around the little bit of terminology that I know, to demonstrate that I was not the stupid biddy he assumed me to be.
