I've just begun on the leg pattern of the "Snicket" socks.

These are going to take a while. The pattern is one I've come to think of as very "mannerly" or very "rococo" - it requires concentration, it's tight to knit (because EVERY knit is a ktbl), and it looks very controlled or contained after it's knit.

I think I like the less intensive, stretchier, patterns better. This stitch pattern is kind of Louis XIV and I tend to be more of an Irish Tribal High King (or High Queen; it seems some of the old Irish tribes weren't too gender-picky in terms of their rulers) sort of person.

Still, I'm going to go through with it, because it is so well suited to the color of the yarn.

I've been considering the Pimlico shrug from Knit 2 Together (perhaps more famously known as the "Tracey Ullman knitting book.") I think I want one.

I do have some roughly-dk weight yarn in the stash - hunting around on Elann last night for some ideas of what kind of dk was out there, it reminded me that Elann's "Quechua" is a dk weight - and I had bought some of this when it first came out, for one of the shawls in Folk Shawls.

I think I might repurpose the yarn into the shrug. I don't know, though - the biggest size is described as fitting "36" to 42" bust" and I'm at the upper size range of that - and with my broad shoulders, I just wonder how it would fit.

I like the IDEA of the shrug, but I'm not sure how it would look on me. It's hard to tell from the photo because the model is (a) the typical willowy bustless thin-shouldered model-for-knits and (b) she's all wrapping the shrug up around her, and when I see someone cuddling a garment up close to their body with their arms folded, my inner Maggie Righetti kicks in and starts to wonder just what they're trying to hide with that pose.

So I don't know. I DO know I have a bunch of projects I want to finish (Greek pullover, Kenobi, the Cozy shawl...) before I start another big project.
