Well, the repair on the mailbox seems to be holding. And I have the offer of a loan of(or, if the time is right, for him to come out and help me with) a posthole digger if I want to put in a sturdier box.

I think I do. I'm going to see if I can find one of the big, plastic-encased mailboxes (it's made out of that heavy plastic - kind of like the Little Tykes toys) like my parents have. It's mounted on a 6 by 6 that's sunk into the ground (hence the need for a posthole digger) and I think it would be a lot harder to vandalize than the standard little metal mailboxes. (That said...I wonder if the vandals might see it as a challenge. Sigh. People with too much free time.)

On to happier things.

I rarely buy myself jewelry but I had to have this:

cuff

It says - you can't read it all in that photo - "Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult." I love it - and had to have it when I saw it in a catalog - because that pretty much sums up how I feel aboout myself.

And that seems particularly apropos today, given what I finished last night.

ivy

Meet Ivy. Ivy is the second monster I made off of that "Furryness!" pattern I linked to before.

Olaf is a baby monster, I think, but Ivy is a little girl monster. Ivy is sweet but sometimes a little bossy. She likes to play tea parties and climb trees.

Olaf and Ivy are cousins. Ivy is quick to remind people that even though she was made later, she's a lot older than Olaf, who is really just a baby.

ivynolaf2

Ivy is very fond of her baby cousin Olaf. (Partly because he's still willing to play tea parties with her.)

I've got to tell you about our secret vandalism-proof mailbox. If you decide you want to do this you'll need not one but two strong guys to install it for you. We bought a large standard rural mailbox and a medium sized one, centered the smaller one inside the larger one and poured concrete in the space between the two. On the outside it looks like any other mailbox but anyone who hits it with a baseball bat or 2X4 is in for a big surprise. It's still possible for someone to damage the door but so far no one has. After several years it still looks like new and we live in an area where there is a huge mailbox vandalism problem.
