I mentioned the other day that I should show you all a picture of the reason why I wanted to make a real effort to finish the quilt in the frame.

Well, here it is. This is a top I've had done since either 2001 or 2002. I pulled out out earlier this week to "rotate" it (so the folds wouldn't set forever) and I realized that I really, really want to start quilting it:

I've hung it the opposite way to what it would lie across the bed (it's a full-sized top) so it doesn't drag too much on the ground.

The pattern's called "Road to Jericho," and if I remember correctly, it was in one of the issues of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine - maybe from 2000?

I made an effort to use fabrics reminiscent (well, as "reminiscent" as one can be of a place one's never been) of Provence. Because it was inspired by one fabric I found

The fabric's in this closeup:

It's the one in the lower-left corner of the center - the original fabric is a big landscape print with stone houses and fields with purple (lavender?) and gold (sunflowers?) growing in them.

I loved the fabric so I bought a bunch and planned the quilt around it. I tried to choose fabrics that worked colorwise (greens, golds, purples, some oranges and blue) but also thematically - lots of big floral prints (of flowers I imagined people in Provence might grow - zinnias and nasturtiums and geraniums and sunflowers), some produce prints (grapes, of course, and apples, and tomatoes), and chickens and eggs, and more landscape prints showing old stone houses.

Here's another closeup of some of the other fabrics:

I had forgotten how much I LOVED this quilt top, how much the colors in it feed my soul. I'm going to remember it for when I start stalling on the quilt in the frame right now - I really want to get that one finished so I can start quilting on this one.

I think it is the best top I have ever made, both technically and in terms of color choice. (So there's no question of my hand quilting it versus taking it to be machine quilted - I want this one to be hand quilted).

I also have the backing, and I think tucked away somewhere, a batting for it.

Oh, and here's the border. The same fabrics used in the main body of the quilt, but as a series of random rectangles:

This is just a stunning piece of work--the color choices, the integration, the whole thing.

Hand quilt it immediately! I insist! (Just in case an authoritative order will hasten things along for you. :))

How wonderful it looks! With the light illuminating it and the seam allowances darker, it looks like stained glass work. You will surely enjoy this one.

Do you have narrow dark sashing between the blocks or is it just shadows which make it look that way? I'm amazed at the preciseness of your piecing.

That's great! I love that pattern. The border made of rectangles was a great idea.
