Liquefaction in action (ha, I made a rhyme) is frightening. The 1987 Loma Prieta earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area was a prime example: large parts of the Marina were destoyed by liquefaction because they were built on landfill and sand.
On the other hand, it's pretty interesting and easy to create the effect anytime at the beach!
