I started the "Exchange Bag" from "The Happy Hooker" last night. The cord isn't easy to crochet with but it's not as bad as I feared. This is a sample workup of the pattern, first to make sure it works for me, but second to make sure I didn't resent working with the hard nylon cord. I realized that I had better get going if I wanted to be sure to have time to do a second one (in a different color) for my sister in law for Christmas. I'm thinking a denimy blue (which I have seen the Hilos cord in) would work well.

I'm using a taupe color for this one but she never wears taupe so I'm going to keep this bag for myself.

The pattern is a little weird - it's worked in the round but you turn each row (you join at the end of each row with a slipped stitch). It's not worked in a spiral which I would think would be a logical way to do a bag, but I suppose by doing it this way, the rows line up rather than being staggered like they would in a spiral.

Still, it was kind of weird to wrap my head around the pattern at first and I kept wanting to check if there was an error.

i have found that when i work in the round with crochet, that if i do end each row, i end up with more "structure" than if i just spiral. i also tend to get lost if i work in a spiral. the turtle i did for steph last year was worked in a spiral, and i had to mark the "end" of each row, or i got lost.
