dragonknitter, the hat is for a woman - but blue and brown are her favorite colors, and she is kind of a "farm woman" so I think the hat will be good for her.
Well. I went out this afternoon to run errands. And I had forgot that Every. Freaking. Street. In. Sherman. Is. Under. Construction. Aaaaaugh! It took me 45 minutes to get to the vicinity of the quilt shop and normally it takes just under 30.
But the quilt looks good. And I picked up the rest of the buck a block stuff - the silly fabric company said "whoops, we decided we're not reprinting that line and you might not be able to get it any more" so the quilt-shop person suspended the project but let people buy (as supplies lasted) the necessaries for finishing the quilt. I had called her on the first day she was doing that and begged her to set some aside for me, and she did. So I can finish the quilt without resorting to having to substitute fabrics.
I think Sunday is going to be For Sewing this week. I feel a strong desire to work more on the turquoise and brown quilt. And after that - I'm going to finish the "buck a block" quilt (ha ha, I first typed, "buck a blog").
And JoAnn's now carries Paton's Classic Wool. Woot! I hope they'll continue; it's a really nice yarn and of the "popular" widely-available yarns (i.e. Yarns You Do Not Need To Go To A Specialty Yarn Shop For) it's my favorite.
I also snagged a few of their super-clearance yarns to play around with for Amigurumi. I want to make a little bluebird like that "turquoise chickie" that I linked to a photo of last week or so.
I also found a really good soft fuzzy yarn that blends with the bright "tropicalish" colors I'm using in my mom's hat. So that was a success. I think I shall start that tonight, once my laundry is done and dinner is concluded.
Making things for other people makes me insanely happy. I should just have a pair of mittens for Dulaan or a Seaman's scarf or something like that going for times when I get feeling down and yucky and sorry for myself. Or a Guideposts sweater - I've got the yarn put aside for two.
Oh, and the Happy Hooker Scarf? It was on stall because I realized I was running out of yarn faster than I was finishing the shells. My choices were: rip the whole darn thing back and start over with the smaller hook or try to get more of the yarn.
Well, I was commiserating with my mom about it and saying that the nearest Michael's (the place I knew carried the yarn) was in McKinney and I had no plans to go there for quite a while, so I'd probably be better off ripping it out and restarting.
Well, she reminded me she had a Michael's near her, so she said she'd go and check.
The yarn came today. Yay mom! (It's a different dyelot but as it's a white color, I can't see any difference). And I couldn't have even picked it up at JoAnn's today, the "winter white" - which is what I was using - was one color they don't seem to carry. So I can finish that now. (I found out the yarn came after I got home).
While I was out, I also went to Target ("Tar-zhey") and did a bit of Christmas shopping and a bit of Christmas-decorating shopping. Including buying a fairy-lighted garland to put on my mantel this year. I don't know but I just love the idea of tiny lights all around a room with the rest of the room dark. It makes me feel all happy and cozy. And I impulse-bought "Elf" (the movie), figuring it would be a good thing to watch as I sit and work on hats and other gifts.
I may start decorating this weekend. Hang the fact that it's technically too early.
